fully comprehensive means you can claim for repairs to your own vehicle even if it was your fault, and also covers other vehicles or property damaged if you are involved in an accident third party only covers other vehicles or property damaged not your own vehicle |

On an auto policy, the word Comprehensive refers to coverage on your own vehicle. It's a synonym for "Other than Collision". It covers your car for things like theft, vandalism, fire, etc.
Third Party insurance is another name for Liability coverage. It covers the damage you do to other people and other cars. |

Roughly put, third party covers you against risks to other people's property (& is a legal requirment). Comprehensive adds on cover to your own property.
So, if you hit someone else, their damage will be covered but not your own, unless you have comprehensive cover which covers the lot (less an excess). |

i just changed from third party to fully comp, for a extra £6 a month, and just had my windscreen renewed within a few days, better off fully comp as they give more for free |

when my car crashed and landed on its roof I had 3rd party so I had to pay to have it righted and towed off the motorway If I had had fully comprehensive the insurance company would have paid. An enormous costly exercise on my part. |

the above answers basically cover it though third party is different to third party fire and theft. |

Third party means your only covered for damage to other party if you have an accident, fully comp does exactly what it says on the tin, covers everything(providing you not breaking the law, no tax, mot etc) This is why young new drivers usually opt for 3rd party because its a lot cheaper until you can build up your no claims. |

If you are in an accident with another car and you're at fault, then the Third Party insurance will pay for their car to be repaired but you'll have to pay for your own. Fully Comp will pay for both cars although unless you have it protected your insurance will go up. |

If you are covered fully comp. and you have an accident any damage to the vehicles involved, including your own, is paid for through the insurance companies involved.
If you are covered third party the damage to the other vehicles is paid for through the insurance.
That is why Third Party is cheaper.
All policies cover Fire & Theft. |
