What is the point of getting a car insured?

Well, first, liability insurance is required in most states in order to register your car.

Second, if you are in an accident that is your fault, how else will you pay for damages and medical bills to the other driver and possible passengers?

Third, if you are in an accident that totals or severely damages your car, how will you pay for it - unless you've got a flush bank account?

To be a responsible driver, you need to at least have liability insurance.

Cost varies depending your age, gender, vehicle, and driving record. It costs me about $155 per six months for liability.

The point of getting a car insured is to:

1. Protect the interest owners from loss. This is why the bank requires full coverage while you have an outstanding balance.

2. Protect the registered owner in case of damage or injury to other property or people. This includes lawsuits.

3. Protect the general public in case your carelessness causes them harm.

Liability is so you don't get sued. The more assets you have, the higher limits you will want. If you casue an accident and don't have any insurance, you could be saying goodbye to everything you own.

Collision and Comprehensive will cover your vehicle in case of a loss.

Uninsured motorist will cover you if you are hit by someone who doesn't have insurance.

Only a couple of reasons.

1. To be protected financially in case you have damaged someones property.

2. To comply with the law.

Added: Almost forgot, if its a new car which you have financed, the lender will require full coverage insurance to approve the loan.

i,ll tell you why,,if you don't have insurance,,and you own anything like a house or land,,the person you hit can sue you and take it from you,,there's people that make a good living from doing this,it almost happened to me once,,lucky for me i did have insurance,,and they investigated it,,and found it to be a bad claim,,other wise i would have lost it all,this is the main reason for having it though,just to protect your self,,and it does help others if you get in to an accident,,but without it,,some people would be paying for the rest of their life on a debt they can never pay off,,god luck,hope this help,s.

In some states if you don't have insurance you can't get car tags. If you have an accident, you sure would wish you had insurance. Especially if it's your fault.
The cost depends on what kind of car you have and how old or new it is.
