They have to do a background check on your credit history and driving history to make sure you aren't high risk. They charge more for high risk drivers.
Banks do the same thing when you open a checking account. |

Insurance companies run a credit check just like any other place anymore. There check however is considered a "soft hit" and will not effect your credit score.
Some insurance companies have different rankings and for those with better credit will get a better rate. If you have poor credit you will be put in another rating and thus will have a higher payment.
The DL # is to pull your driving report for suspensions, voilations, etc. |

Hmmm...let's see....why would an insurance company need your driver's license number before they give you a quote? Well, maybe so they can check your driving record, to establish if you are a higher risk driver? As for the SSN - they run a quick credit check. Applicants with good credit pay lower premiums. |
