What state do you not have to have Insurance?

All states require you to show financial responsibility to operate a motor vehicle. Most states have a mandatory insurance law in place, which can be satisfied with either having an insurance policy, or being self insured.

You will hear that New Hampshire doesn't require insurance, but that is not really true.

The NH Insurance Department states that New Hampshire law does not require you to have automobile insurance. However, if you have an "at fault" accident without having insurance coverage, you will be required to post a bond or cash equal to the amount of damage you caused in that accident.

If at fault in an accident in this state you must also satisfy the NH Financial Responsibility requirements to continue to operate a vehicle in New Hampshire. These minimum limits are 25/50/25 (Bodily Injury $25,000 per person; $50,000, 2 or more persons; and Property Damage $25,000). A $75,000 single limit policy will also satisfy the minimum requirement.

So, although you can drive in New Hampshire without being insured, if you have an accident you had better have the cash to cover the damages you caused.

they probably meant you don't need insurance to own or have the car registered but you do need insurance if your going to drive it anywhere, but some states do require you to have insurance just to own the car but some states don't require it unless your going to drive it then yes you will

like in my state its not required to own but of course you need it to drive it, so i can take the insurance off my truck just that i can't have my truck on the street at all

New Hampshire has no mandatory insurance requirement. But even they recommend that you have insurance.

im pretty sure every state almost requires insurance..thats the only reason why i dont have my license its sooooo expensive

New Hampshire and Wisconsin do not require insurance to drive on the public roads (unless you have had an accident, etc)

You don't need insurance, plates, on Indian reservations in Montana

++ One point of disagreement, oklatom. If the damage exceeds $1000, or there is personal injury, then minimum amounts are required for 3 years. Proof of insurance (SR-22) to be filed with the state.
No bond is posted. Payment of the full amount, or signed agreement to pay the full amount. Default of the agreement may mean license suspension until restitution paid. It's in the link.

tennessee is one i live on the TENN/VA state line if you live in tenn you dont have to have it but if you drive over the state line to va you will get a ticket for no insurance
