What would one have to do to get a home built car road legal in Ontario Canada?

I have most of the parts just lying around and have always wanted to build my own car, something like a kit car. However, I'm not sure what I would have to do to get a home build car road legal. Obviously there is certain criteria the car has to meet like turn signals, mirrors, etc. but what about registration, licensing and insurance? Any tips/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I start my project.

I don't know the exact process in Ontario but here in B.C. you would need the following (I imagine it would be the same or similar in Ontario):

- Bill of sales(s) of all major components;
- Provincial safety inspection;
- Weigh scale certificate;
- Emissions certificate (not applicable in all parts of B.C. however I imagine it would be in Ontario);
- B.C. assigned Vehicle Inspection Number (VIN);

Any province can issue a VIN for a vehicle without one or one with out a standard 17 digit VIN. depending on Ontario's rules they may require a federal inspection as well as a provincial one.
