There's no reason why you can't get short-term cover - Get your Mum to contact her insurer and add you onto her policy for, say three months and then contact them again to take you off once you pass. |

The Shortest is one day
research short term insurance
it is usually from 1day-30 days |

You can get a policy that lasts a day. It won't be cheap though. |

You mum can add you on her insurance for 1 day |

30 days is the shortest amount of time for a policy unless you're traveling to Mexico and then you can insure your vehicle for the amount of time you'll be spending there. |

My cousin put me on her insurance for 3 days cos I wanted to borrow her car for 3 days. It wasn't that expensive but I've got a full licence.
Only real solution is for your mum to bite the bullet and ring her insurance company. |

***Best Answer***
Your mum can ask her insurance company if you can be added temporarily to her policy. Insurance companies normally allow you to go on up to 4 weeks as long as you meet their underwriting criteria and this usually comes at a charge to do so.
If not you can seek short term policies online which may allow you to do this - check Swinton.co.uk as they offer a short period policy.
There usually is no straight forward answer as each insurance company will give you different answers to your question. |

you can be insured for as little as a day, however i doubt you need to know that, and they generally only do it for older more experienced drivers as its to much risk. when i learnt to drive we went to our existing insurance company who gave us a quote of a mere £3k a yr, however they did let us have 3 months with me on for £200, this allowed me to start just after i was 17 but before the insurance was up for renewal. when we renewed it (with RAC) we paid £300 on top of what my parents would have paid, i was still a learner at this point.
if you get insured for a short period of time it will cost you proprtionatley more, because there will be an admin fee (even if its included in the price its still there). if you are learning to drive it would be wise to get a longer period, like the whole year, as the price difference might not be that great and you can carry on practicing and when you pass you can drive your mums car if you need to (and she lets you). |

its right. Insurance isn't a contract you can be on it as long as you want and if you want out you gotta submit it in writing and they will give you your money that hasn't been used back. I switched 3 times in one month. |

Most companies will insure you for the minimum of a week. |

I have seen rates quoted for 1 month, but this is typlically at least 10% of the annual premium.
I had a free 7 day policy last year. |

Hi Clare,
You can cancel whenever you want after your coverage begins UNLESS otherwise stated in your policy. Always read the fine print.

You can get insured for just on month if need be, just find a month-to-month plan. I have Geico and it's month to month. Actually pretty much any plan you get can be a temporary one, you just have to cancel it when you don't need it and prove you have other insurance! |

I am not gonna say that I am totally sure about the answer.it is really depending on the personal feelings.thus it would better for you to try to find the best answer yourself. Here http://www.AutoInsuranceIdeas.info is a good resource for reference though. |
