I'm getting a new licence soon because mine expired. Will I have the same licence number?
Also, what exactly is the point of having licences expire?

Your license number will stay the same.
The point of having a license expire is so that your vision can be rechecked, maybe verify you haven't lost any limbs, update you photo, and keep the general population safe from drivers who can't or shouldn't be on the road.

yes your number stays the same. The idea that the license expires is partially to take more of your money, but also it helps with their book keeping |

Depends on your state/country. Seeing as you aren't in the US (from your spelling), I don't know.
The point of renewals is to make sure you can't get away with showing an invalid license for too long. |

well for one because they keep coming up with new better security methods for the license card...plus its just so they can make sure that you still have all ur documents and all that stuff! its for safety purposes... i think the license number stays the same |

You will have the same license number.
One reason that might be that you need a new license is because when people get older, their physical traits change, or new traffic laws are in effect and the expired license is a sign to the DMV that you need to be update on the laws and retake a test. Also because your physical traits change (weight, needing glasses, etc.) they need an updated card with an updated photo and information to keep their records current. |
