License plates as well as your own drivers license are surrendered at your new states Department of Motor Vehicles. Ck the local phone book for information. Do not wait, you can get yourself in serious trouble for failing to change your vehicle as well as your drivers license.

Your inspection in the state u use to live is not always valid in the new state. Immediately, when you moved most states give u a short less than 4 wks grace period to get moved & things reregistered in new state. Some have no grace period. U have to notify your car insurance company too.

Exceptions are military families and some college students... but even they may have provisional requirements. If ph book doesn't help, call local property tax office in the town u live. They will direct u and the police r good to direct u to correct office for new state.

They usually give you about 30 days to change them IF you come from a reciprocity state (one that gives the same privilege to people from their state). If you get stopped or get into an accident after that time but before you changed them they can charge you with driving an unregistered vehicle.

And yes you will probably lose money on the inspection, the insurance, and the plates even if you notify your old state and send back the plates.

In California, you have I believe 30 days upon entry of a vehicle to get the new plates or at least to start the registration. You may have to be more specific as to where you are going.

GA gives you a month.

Most states have a time limit -- 30 to 90 days -- for you to get new licenses (vehicle and drivers) once you move into their state. Check the FAQ section of their BMV website. I am sure it will say.

Here's my question to you: How will they know you're not just visiting?

I'm sure the right thing to do is go in & get them changed over right away.

i believe you can wait until it expires or you have about 60 days

60 days

Most states require a change of address, drivers license, registration of vehicle within 30 days.

A lot of people don't do it right away and risk the chance of being ticketed.

PeppermintandPopcorn
Most states give you a 30 day leeway with exceptions to military and college students.

Generally, when you change permenant addresses that includes changing states you are given 30 days to register your car in that state. Your inspection is a bit different as it will be valid until the expiration date (in most states).

You also have 30 days to changes your Driver's License as well. In Texas when you get your DL changed you can also register to vote at the same time/place.

Soo... I suggest you pick a day during the week and gather up about $100 which should cover the cost of the plates, DL fees and an inexpensive lunch!

Good luck!

Every state is different but on average it is 30 days for your license plate and drivers license.

I think that would all depend on the state you're living in. Here in Iowa, I believe you have thirty days from the time you first establish a residence here in Iowa that you need to get Iowa plates. I would recommend that you check with the county treasurer, or whoever takes care of that in the state where you live to find out what the exact rules are.

it varies by state

it varies from state to state, but typically you have 30 days to get registered and new plates on your vehicle.

Right away. Or they'll impound your car.

Dont wait till its expires ..that wont be good. Do it shortly before it expires like a month before.

most states give you a week if you are working, if you do not have a job, there is not a set time limit.
state laws may vary.
