When supervising a learner driver in the UK what are the alcohol limits for the supervisor?

The legal limit for someone supervising a learner is exactly the same as it is for a driver - i.e 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

You can't calculate it in terms of how many drinks you can have as alcohol has a different affect on each individual person.

The best advice anyone can give is DON'T drink and drive (including supervising a learner) at all...

The same as for anyone who is driving. not sure what it is but anyone with sense will have nothing to drink if they are supposed to be supervising a learner.

as CDT says, but it might be easier to test your breath using one of those kits from halfords - unless you have a needle handy to test your blood - only joking CDT!

Breath limit is 35 micro grams per 100 ml of breath, but will probably tell you on the box.

If you are looking for the amount you can actually drink, that varies on the person and their body's ability to deal with alcohol. Your average man can have around 2 units, which is about 3/4 of your average pint of lager!

I know you don't want anyone's petty opinions, but as a driving instructor, I know how alert you need to be when supervising learner drivers, and therefore i think I am entitled to voice MY petty opinion when I say this:

OK you might be able to have X amount of alcohol, but I would strongly suggest the best amount of alcohol to have when in charge of something as dangerous as a car travelling at 70 mph, is ZERO!

I'd take a guess that it'd be the same as if you were driving. The logic behind this being that as you are supervising a learner they may, for some reason or other, no longer be able to drive the car and therefore you would have to take over the driving to get back to your home/wherever you're going.

Reasons could be something like being overcome by nerves, reaching a stretch of unavoidable motorway to reach your destination or that you're too terrified by their driving to allow them to continue and possibly crash your car.

the person supervising is under the same obligation as a driver and therefore the same laws apply .....

best not to at all if the Learner has a knock the supervisor is held responsible if they are found to be under the imfluence tehy will charged just as if they were behind the wheel AND the Leaner will be charged for driving without a responsible supervisor etc etc

its the same as the driver....if your supervising and your ''pissed'' your done for drink driving...limit is 35mg.
funny story,years ado i was learning with an instructor and i pulled out infront of a cop car,he screeched to a halt...he walked STRAIT to the instructors side and gave him such a bolliking,when asked he said the its the instructors fault...
