Yes, by law you have to change your registration and plates. Each state has a specified time period for completing this change, after which, if you're stopped by a policeman, you will be fined. |

In many states military do not have to. College may also be 'temporary' and not permanent residency. The timing will depend on the state, but it is usually required relatively quickly.
Virginia gives you 30 days for the title, plates and local sticker. It also requires insurance and an inspection.

Yes, (unless you are a full time college student in Va.) Of course you do. You also need new insurance in Va because your old Alaska coverage may not transfer to Va |
