Which car insurance should i go with?

i've been with mercury insurance for many years now. but since i've never had to file a claim, i don't know how good they are. i got two lower quotes from esurance and response insurance. i don't know if i should switch. any experience feedback with your car insurance companies would be great.

First, I would say it depends on how much lower the quote was. Then, check ambest.com for the financial rating of the insurer (I wouldn't go to anyone less than an A- rating). Also, check their future outlook - it will be on the same page - to see if they are stable.
If you currently have an agent, I would tend to stay. If you go to a company without agents, they are only online or on the phone, you would have to do all the changes yourself, everytime you call you will get someone else (you have no idea where they are located, maybe somewhere in the US, maybe not) & sometimes when this happens, you could get different answers from different people due to training issues.
They really don't give advise about how much coverage you really should have, they will probably sell you just minimum limits up to $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 liability which really is inadequate these days, especially if you own a home. I haven't sold that limit since the first year of my first insurance job 19 yrs ago. |

Go with a carrier like State Farm or someone who has an office to where you can walk in and do your business transactions. I have never heard of mercury, but if you have had good experience with them, stay or another option is Geico, I understand them or Hartford are two good options. Both have websites where you can apply. |

The one that meets your needs and has the best price and customer service.
To find out what company that is, check with an independent agent, give him all your information and let him search his data banks. |

Insurance companies are rated. Check them out and then make your decision. Personally, I stay with the companies who have an agent with an office nearby. Those companies with the most public exposure will normally treat you better and tend to protect their reputation better than some "Einsurance" company |
