Option 1: Try internet sites - I guarantee you'll be amazed at the number who want to quote HOWEVER as you are a young person with no experience in insurance I would ask you? Do you feel competent in understanding the terms and conditions of the insurance policy you buy?
Option 2: Seek professional help from a local insurance broker - contact BIBA and they'll be able to direct you. The broker will assess your requirements and advise you on which would be the best policy. They won't be able to quote for all companies e.g. the Direct ones but you'll get better cover through them - and help if you need it while you're insured with them.
Please do NOT insure the car in your mother or father's name - especially if you do an internet quote. The quote will assume, most likely, that your mother or father is the main user and, if you don't spot it you will unwittingly have made a false statement for the purpose of obtaining a certificate of motor insurance - a criminal offence and, what is worse, the time it will be found out will be the time that you make a claim and NEED the policy benefits.
A lot of comparison sites make many assumptions about the vehicle and drivers. Read them VERY carefully - don't just click the 'I agree' button because you know you cannot get a quote otherwise.
There is nothing to stop your parents BUYING the car from you, registering it in their name and arranging a separate policy (they won't be able to use their no claims bonus a second time) BUT
1) They will have to declare that you are the main user so the premium is likely to be virtually the same. It may even be more because you may lose a 'lady only driver' discount.
2) You will not earn any no claims bonus in your name.
3) The policy may exclude you from travelling to work and almost certainly exclude you from using your car for work purposes (if applicable)
Please do not equate 'cheaper' with 'better'. If you don't claim then you save money - if you have to claim that 'cheapness' may be very expensive.
My suggestion, if you cannot obtain affordable quotes, would be to a) take the pass plus and b) look for a 6-mmonth policy with an enhanced discount at the end of it. (Useful anyway if you have a birthday in the next 6 months) |

There are a lot of variables when calculating insurance premiums. Location, features that the car has (anti-lock brakes, etc), and in the case of a teen, grades. Each company calculates these factors differently. The only way to get an accurate answer is to shop around. |

Hi when I was under 25 my dad insured my car for me (which meant he had 2 policies one for my car one for his) I was on the policy as a named driver so this worked out v.cheap. Watch out tho the car needs to be registered in the persons name who is the policyholder. My dad did this for my brother too. Anyways if your driving your mums car you can just go on her insurance so I just renewed with Kwik Fit and they were well cheap, had tried all the 'girls' insurance places but they were expensive |

First get a quote from your Mother's insurance company to add you as a secondary driver. I live in Alberta and Wawanesa insurance is the best price I've ever received for myself. (Female, 23) I've been with them since my first car when I was 16... priced out many other insurance companies who never came close. Good luck, and happy driving! |
