Who's at fault?

I'm turning onto a 3 lane street into the middle lane. A lady from the turning lane opposite of me makes a u-turn into the same lane. We collide, who's at fault?

Assuming u-turns were allowed there. You are both equally at fault. Each of you are supposed to turn into the lane closest to you. In this case, You into the "inside" lane, and her into the "outside" lane. If each of you had followed the rules, no accident would have occurred.

I think you failed to turn into the lane nearest the curb. Also from your admission you said you went directly to the inside lane. The other vehicle is at fault also for failing to yield. I hate it when this happens. Good Luck.

Dang thats a rough situation, I honestly have no idea but I am very very curious to see what the verdict is.

I would think that the person who made the u-turn would be at fault because she has a yield sign and shouldnt have been going over into the middle lane right away.

you are supposed to stay in the curb lane when turning right
then signal to a new lane.
100,000,000's of people do what you did daily as a habit and it is against the law.
now you know why.

was it legal for her to make a u turn ? in some states u turns are not permited on some roads. In any case i think it would be her fault BUT when you turned right onto the middle lane instead of the lane closest to the curb she can say its your fault. My guess would be that the insurance co.s will fight it out good luck

she definately is, right turns always have the right away and she was turning left. you still probably got a ticket though im assuming becuse of that stupid reckless driving law in which both people in an accident get a ticket

With the little bit of information that is given, I would probably say it's comparable.

Where is the damage on both vehicles? Do you have a stop sign? Driving laws state when your making a right turn you should be turning into the lane closest to the curb. She has no controls except to make sure opposing traffic is clear.
