Well, technically if he backed into you it should be his fault. But, if you didn't exchange any information, you're not going to find him again & you'll be paying for it. |

Honestly: the person in front of you. How cops see it: you are, by default, since you were behind. |

It doesn't matter who is "responsible" if there is no damage and no police report was filed. You did the right thing by letting it go, it was not worth involving the police or insurance companies since there was no damage. |

since you handled it that way its completely your fault. |

Here's how this would go down if the two of you had exchanged info:
Technically, the car that rear-ends the car in front of them is ALWAYS at fault, from a legal standpoint.
In your case, he backed in to you, but the only evidence of this would be your word, assuming no witnesses. He could say you bumped in to him. Then you'd say, "BS, he backed in to me!" And the cop or insurance company would probably call it a "no-fault" accident.
Since you did not get the other driver's info, you are going to pay for it unless you have coverage for unisured motorists on your insurance. Call your insurance agent and ask them if you'd be covered in this case. |

So the guy in-front of you was in reverse and hit you?.....then he is is for sure. You can't drive backward on a road! The problem is proving this. If he says that you drove into him then its your word against his so typically the guy in at the back is blamed (why would he be backing up it makes more sense that it was a re-ender) Just be glad there was no damage done. watch out for the crazys out there. If that ever happens again don't back up too, you don't want to hit he guy behind you, just honk and try to grab a witness. |

if you don't have his info or any witnesses you're screwed. |

It's pretty unusual for the car in front of you, in heavy traffic, to reverse, and bump into you. Most of the time, if they say you rearended them, and you say they backed into you, everyone is going to believe them, and YOU will be found at fault.
The only way you might not, would be if the other car was a standard, you were both stopped on a hill, and you think he rolled backwards when he attempted to go forward and start moving again. Pretty easy to tell, though, because his vin will tell the adjuster if it's automatic or manual - and most cars are automatic these days. |

you,
its always the care behind, because you should of given space and stuff like that. even if you gave enough space its still your fault, in the eyes of the police.
hope that helps,
goood luck!!! |

Heavy traffic the cars are going one direction, if another car stupidly backs up and hits the car behind them, they are at fault.
The drivers of both vehicles agree to not do anything about it, no more can be done. You don't know who they are.
No an officer may say that you were both in the wrong for leaving the seen of an accident, but you both agreed there was no damage.
Next time if your car is damaged or you get hurt better call the cops. Unless there is nothing to report. |

its very difficult to defend, that its not your fault but truly is the other persons fault. you didnt exchange information anyways so just forget about it. and in the future just keep your DISTANCE |

If the the car in front of you backed into you and hit you then, it's that persons fault. If you hit that car then it's yours. It really wasn't smart not to exchange information because now it doesn't matter who's fault it is because you paying for the damage now. |
|

me too
|
its his fault if he was reversing. But if he was stationary and you rolled into him - your fault.
But without swapping details, good luck telling the insurance company! |

How did you he hit you by stopping fast? Was he coming back if yes he is, or if you were driving behind him and he suddenly stopped and you hit him it is your fault because you should always keep some distance. |

If you didn't exchange info, it doesn't matter b/c you'll probably never see them again! If you couldn't back up (like if there was a car right behind you) it shouldn't be your fault. If you just weren't paying attention, it's more your fault,. At any rate, it's unresolved. |
