Same as anything else - the person who paid for it (assuming it wasn't stolen when bought, in which case it belongs to the person it was stolen from).
The person on the logbook is simply the registered keeper, and not necessarily the owner. If you take the trouble to read it it says so. |

If you take the time to read the registration document , it says "the registered keeper"
the rightful owner would be the one with the proof of purchase |

No matter how you look at it if the person who bought it has proof of purchase any court will say it's there's i know personally just cause someone on log book don't matter only registered to them to drive it. |

Good question - the person on the log book (V5) is the registered keeper, not necessarily the owner.
We bought a car for our son to drive. The car belongs to us. However, for insurance purposes we were advised to have our son's name on the V5; it was cheaper to insure him as the registered keeper of the car. Nowhere on the V5 does it refer to our son as the OWNER of the car. |

In the UK there is no official "title" document.
The "registered keeper" listed on the V5c (logbook) is not necessarily the owner - I was the registered keeper on my car from new, but I didn't actually own it until I had paid off the finance.
If the car has been bought on finance there should be paperwork to support the finance company's ownership of the car (the finance agreement). If the car has been bought by someone else (e.g. a parent for a son or daughter) then proving ownership may be difficult, unless there is a receipt from the purchase with the buyer's name on it. |

The person on the log book as that is why dvla says to fill in the part of the registration form yourself and send it in when you sell the car. |

The person who bought the car. I'm in the same situation i am just the registered keeper not the owner, and as others have said before it tells u on the document. |

As far as I'm aware the person on the log book is the legal owner till you send it off with the new owners name. |

Certainly for Insurance purposes it is the Person in the log book. |

The Person on the log book is the legal owner of the car. In some cases they arent the rightful owner, but legally it's the name on the V5 |
