Here's the deal...My bf took my car for the weekend out of town.
While he was gone, someone hit my car in a parking lot and drove off....smashed my driver's side door in. It's a new car so I want it fixed ASAP. My thought is that his insurance should be covering it because he was in posession of my car...even if the person hit it and left. He is saying that my insurance should cover it....who is right? And why?

Your BF is right. Insurance follows the car, not the driver. He was a permissive driver under your policy. You will have a collision deductible. He should at least help you with that. If he doesn't, he is not a gentleman and not a good boyfriend.r |

It depends. The person who hit your car is responsible, if you find them. If not, your insurance will cover it, less your deductible, if you have collision coverage. If it's a new car and financed it's probably required that you have full coverage. Of course, if your boyfriend is half a man he will step up and pay you back for the damages.
But when you loan your car, you loan your insurance too. His insurance covers HIS car, not yours. Insurance goes with cars, not drivers. But as I said, if he's half a man he will offer to pay. If he's saying your insurance should cover it...ask yourself this,,,is he a keeper? |

He is. As several answers here have pointed out, insurance follows the car, not the driver--so your collision insurance, if you carry it, will fix your car. If you don't have collision, it's out-of-pocket. (On a new car, presumably finance, you certainly should have collision, with a deductible. Maybe you could negotiate the deductible with the bf.) |
