Why are there so many Michigan license plates on the interstates?

Every time I go on a roadtrip in the eastern part of the United States, I can't help but notice an abundance of Michigan license plates on the interstate. Just yesterday, I drove from Lexington, KY to Nashville, TN and saw no fewer than seven Michigan plates. Is there some reason that there's a large abundance of Michigan plates? Are cars cheaper to register in Michigan?
I have a friend who lives in Missouri but has his car registered in Illinois to save on registration fees, I was wondering of Michigan had some similar sort of cheap registration fees.

Michigan is the car capital of the world. Of course there's going to be a lot of cars. Also, if you're on I-75 it's logical that you'll see a lot of Michigan cars because that's how we go down south! |
