Insurance is a game of risk, just like gambling. Younger drivers repeatedly have proven they are awful drivers, careless, and get into accidents more frequently than other age groups. Is it discrimination? No, because all young drivers are charged a higher rate than more experienced older individuals. It would be discrimination if your rate was based SOLELY on your age and no other factors. Regardless of fault, the bulk of my open claims are with drivers 16 - 25 with a few 80-90 year old scattered in between.

Boo-hoo. Maybe AFTER you manage to pass college statistics you'll understand.

No, it's not age discrimination - it's based on driving experience. The higher rates are for NEW drivers & would be pretty similar if you were 18 or 25 & just got your license.

If younger drivers were statistically safer drivers, the premiums would go down. What's the difference between a 30 year old getting their license and starting to drive and a 16 year old? Maturity, judgement, responsibility - to name a few things. It's not age discrimination if they base their rates on information other than age alone. Insurance rates are based on statistics. The reason you will pay more for your insurance than I do (I'm 47, btw) is not simply because of your age vs my age. I have been driving for over 30 years, I have maintained continuous insurance coverage and have a clean driving record. In other words, I have proven myself to be a safe, responsible driver.

Age discrimination is perfectly legal for ALL companies. There are student discounts and senior discounts at shows, restaurants, you name it. Age is not a protected category under the equal protection clause.

Younger driver have less experience driving, and have more accidents.

Age 25 is when your insurance will start to go down. Younger drivers tend to be less safe drivers. Check the Stats.

bundysmom is correct.
it IS gambling.
you bet you wont get in a crash.
and they bet you will .
see ?
the odds are based on facts (demonstrable to the nth degree)

by happy , in the old days it was simple , you just paid what they ask.

now You can get discounts of a ton of things.
good driving record.
length of driving
driving course.
alarm discount.
air bags
on and on to heck and gone.

you can also buy a cheaper car to insure.
drop UMB, PIP , collision, towing. It all adds up. buckeroo

I'm OLD and have 4 cars and my insurance is $1800 a year.
no tickets for 15 years.
did I get a good deal ?

And for me ,where is my Vietnam vet discount,
where is it, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

oh, yes its mandated by the Gov.

Insurance is ALL ABOUT discrimination. Otherwise, you'd pay the same price for LIFE INSURANCE at 25, and 95.

You'd pay a flat rate for car insurance, the average between a 1980 Ford Fiesta, and a 2007 Lamborgini.

People with 5 dui's would pay the same as you . . . which would mean, you'd pay DUI rates. Clean driving records would mean NOTHING.

Do you want that?

it depends on the way you look at it, younger drivers may be less experienced but they did just get out of drivers ed. i see the way my parents drive and i am waayy better drivers than them if you consider that i always, ALWAYS, drive under the speed limit and i always use my signals for every turn and lane change and check my blind spot every time. my dad drives as fast as i do on the freeway driving down a normal road ( i don't drive too slow on the freeway). heck, i see drivers who have been driving for years driving with their knees, they never check their blind spots, my mom never ever looks in her rear view mirror. but in general, people who havn't driven as long are more prone to accidents because they arn't as comfortable on the road. it jsut depends on the way you look at it.

yeah, but what can you do. You'll get older and will pay less for insurance, just give it time.

yeah it is a type of discrimination; put it like this; you don't walk in McDonald's for the first time and pay $10 extra for a big mac just because you are younger.... Now would you..... But based on statistics new drivers have a higher probability of getting into an accident. Younger people are consider more of a risk. That's why the rates are higher.... It isn't fair really. Elderly people whom are losing their sight, hearing, slowed motor skills, etc. to me would be considered a higher risk. Instead of a slightly less experienced teen with sharp skills................ Go figure........
