I think there are two main reasons, both of them based on previous answers:
- Certain government officials can access your address, criminal record, and private details using your registration number.
- Also, if a regular viewer happens to remember a number from the program, and then see that person out and about, they may start harassing them or asking them questions which could be abusive.
They also tend to smudge house numbers and street names; anything which could jeopardise the privacy of the person involved. |

Did you know that cars on recovery vehicles also have to have their number plates covered (in the UK at least). This is, as previously mentioned to prevent car cloning. Whilst on the subject of car cloning, if you get a speeding ticket from a fixed camera claim that you were not driving there that day and that someone must have cloned your car. Worth a try. |

Everyone, not just celebrities has the right to their privacy. With the VIN, you can find out who the registered owner is, where they live, and much more with the right connections. It could even lead to stolen identity. Also, this keeps crooks from cloning your VIN. |
