There are several factors which governs the amount your pay for your insurance, they are;

Age: Driving experience is often (not always) directly propotional to your age. Statistically, young drivers are more likely to be involed in a crash then older ones. Below are some ststistics

- 16 year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age.
- 16-year-olds are three times more likely to die in a motor vehicle
crash than the average of all drivers.
- 3,490 drivers age 15-20 died in car crashes in 2006, up slightly from
2005.

Car's age & Brand: Brand new cars are more expensive to insure as parts are often more expensive as cars gets more and more high-tech with composite material and nice lamps and intelligent systems. Expensive interior, stereos ect. Brand is obvious.

Note that 3 door cars are cheaper to insure than 5 door cars

Parking: This is very important, if you do not park you car in a garage then you are more likely to attract theives then you you had parked in a garage. Driveway is the next best thing, if you park in the streets then the risk is higher so the premium is higher.

Location: Insurance companies have their own database of good and bad locations in terms of crime rates. My insurance went up slightly higher when I moved from Hatfield to Hartlepool.

Alarm: If you car is not fitted with a reliable anti theft system the risk will eb higher as well. Also if you have expensive stereos and gadgets ..ditto

Mileage: If you do alot of mileage then your pay maore.

No Claim bonus: If you hadn't had an insurance before or if your insurance application had been rejected before you will pay higher.

there are many other factors which you will come accross when you fill up the forms.

My advice to you is to get a cheap and reliable 3 door car with good anti theft system. Use it for a year, once you have a record to refer to then you can shop around for cheaper insurance. Alternatively, ring up a sales rep tell him/her that you are looking for a cheap insurance for a car and ask them to suggest a car that would be cheap to insure.

A post code that is a 2 minute walk from my home is an extra Â£200 for insurance for my car.
