Why is insurance higher on sports cars?

I pay high insurance on my camero.But some of these non-sport cars seem to drive faster than me.
But I do drive the speed limits.Do you think its fair I pay higher?

A higher probability of crashing, damage, expense. So they take no chances. If you have a high-cost car everything will be high cost including the insurance. |

You own a camaro, but can't even spell it. That's a good sign that can't drive.
Statistical analysis will show that many sports car owners drive fast and engage in riskier behavior than non sports car owners.
I'm sure you can find the statistics on crashes, drunk driving, etc.. and the majority would include sports cars. So when actuaries are trying to determine rates, they use this data. |

The answer is simple. Insurance companies operate on formulas, simply sports cars are considered vehicles that will probably at some time be used in a fashion that increases the chances of getting into an accident due to aggressive driving associated with sports cars. The more you drive a car intended for performance driving the greater the risk for an accident. |

Duh. It's called risk management. Grandpa and his 2000 Crown Vic are much less likely to have an eight-car, med-air transfer, multiple DOA accident than you and your Camaro. Or me in my Mustang, which costs me TWICE what my van does for insurance, even though I drive both cars. It is the law of large numbers. |

Rates are based on the historical activities of people who have owned these cars: they drive faster generally, they have more accidents, the cars tend to be stolen more often, so like, what do you expect? That information (higher ins. cost) was available for you to see before you bought the car. |

It has nothing to do with how fast you drive. It has everything to do with how popular the car is with car thieves. They steal certain makes and models and your camaro sport car is on their list to steal. |

becuase sports cars wreck more often.......
and there fast..you pay for what you buy.
thats why i have a 4dr...its a sport car at heart..just more integra as we say..but i get insurance at a lower rate as it is a 4dr :P |
