I Agree Also with Jonathon Ross and Russel Brand being paid massive amounts of money from our pocket! even if we do not watch the BBc we still get charged to own a Tv! Disgraceful! |

I completely agree, it seems ridiculous that it this is a legal requirement. They should do what other channels and put adverts on their channels to cover costs. |

Of course it's a rip off, made worse because all of the TV license fee goes exclusively to the BBC, who just thumb their noses at us al the time while making massive profits behind our backs and effectively stopping and/or slowing down the expansion of the communications industry in general - unless it happens to be in their interests.
One of the stupidest things ever, is allowing the BBC to claim that it alone safeguards the culture of the people.
Don't make me laugh.
Anyway, enough said, you are not alone and I think you shoud visit the Daily Mail website and have your say their about what you think of the TV license fee and the BBC ripoff.

I agree, I'm on freeview - and that is exactly what it should be FREE. |

i don't beleieve you never watch any BBC channel - or listen to the BBC radio or check the BBC webpage or check out BBC clips on youtube - the BBC is great value for money and I'm not complaining - at least there are no adverts |

1 - The License Fee is to allow you to receive TV signals.
2- Even if you only watch other programmes, significant numbers of their staff have been trained by the BBC
3 - The guaranteed License Fee (and money from the Home Office) allows the BBC to promote the United Kingdom's voice around the world...
4 - ..and at home to provide a valuable network of radio stations which would otherwise be commercially non-viable...
5 - ...and websites which set standards internationally in terms of quality...
6 - ...and other digital investments which commercial broadcaster would find hard to match. Compare the mess that was ITV Digital before the BBC stepped in and changed to Freeview! |

Because it is the law. It is a tax so all people who cannot afford Sky can get what used to be good programs and I bet you watch some BBC or listen to some BBC radio or get BBC news from some source and that has to be paid for. As for cost Sky is the biggest rip off yet at £360 a year and rising plus the kit plus extra kit for each room plus plus plus and the whole thing is controlled by one of the biggest moguls who should be taken down but who is bigger than most countries. |

Whilst the income from TV licensing goes via the government and finances the BBC, You need a TV licence because you have a TV receiver. |

If you read the small print carefully the license is required if you have "equipment capable of receiving television transmissions". It has nothing to do with what programs you watch. I think there was a case a few years ago of someone who only watched video tapes and had no aerial connection whatever. The court still ruled he had to buy a license. The BBC simply gets the revenue from the license but is not responsible for setting the fee (although they frequently ask the government to increase it) or collecting the money. |

You have to pay to support the BBC as your TV can receive BBC channels. We all have to pay it so you should too. |

It is the law.

You're right, it is a rip off. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it, if you don't pay it you can be sent to prison. |

it's the same reason we all have to pay.
it's also the reson that the bbc is the envy of the world.
and you can always be sure it's politically neutral. |
