My boyfriend let his car insurance policy expire because his inspection ran out. He's working out of town, doesn't drive his car, and didnt have a chance to get it inspected.

Some companies will still give a prior ins discount if the policy has been lapsed less than 30 days and he has had at least 6 months prior coverage. Some companies only give the discount if the policy has been lapsed less than 7 days. Depends on the company. Also, if it hasn't been lapsed over 30-60 days, there is a possiblity of reinstatement. Check with the company. |

Depends on the car, how much is owed (if any), and who will be driving it.
Shop around. If the drivers have a decent record that's well established, you might get a deal. |

normally it's about 1/3 of the entire policy. could range from a few hundred(100-300) or get as expensive as 1,000-1,500. I haven't seen a new policy that cost more than that. depends on how his record is |

One of the question asked is "Do you currently have insurance?" If the answer is no, that could cause you to go into assigned risk. Although the reasons for not having it seem legitimate, ask the agent.
I do wish he had called and canceled it though, rather than just 'letting it expire' because in some states, that will cause your driver's license to be revoked. |

if none drives the car dont insure it,but if you or him drive it you will have to have one third of the cost of a new policy.So if its 800.00 a yr it would probably cost about 150.00. |

It will cost more since there has been a break in insurance. If the car has been registered and driven, then they will make a big red mark on his record. |

When you re-instate with the same company, they are going to charge your unpaid premium (if any) plus another down payment (usually 45 days worth of coverage), so it may get expensive, depending on any unpaid premium amounts. It depends on how long it's been since coverage lapsed. |
