I was driving on the highway, suddenly traffic slows down and we were driving at regular speed (65). i check my side mirror's, and the next thing i know my brand new car has no bumper. some idiot did not pay attention and he hit me. total repair is $1538. now, will his insurance call my insurance and let them know about it? will my insurance rates rise even though its not my fault?

This is probably a carrier/state specific question. In Texas, most companies don't penalize clients for not at fault accidents. Go through the other carrier and don't even call your company. The other carrier is not going to "tell on you", believe me its all the adjuster can do just to get your car fixed. But, if your insurance company pulls MVRs each year, they'll find out about it anyway. There are some insurers who will not take customers who have had "x" number of incidents, though, or will charge lower rates for drivers who have no activity (including NAF accidents). Is it right? No, but if someone has been in several (more than one or two) NAF accidents recently, that would tend to indicate they aren't driving with enough caution (ie not allowing a safe following distance so when traffic screeches to a halt, they have to stomp on the brakes, causing the other guy who is also not allowing enough following distance to slam into them). I am amazed that there aren't more accidents every day than there are. |
