I am a green-plate probationary driver in Melbourne, Australia.
I was sitting at an intersection in a line of cars to turn right. When the green arrow lit, the line moved but when it turned amber, I decelerated. I was capable of coming to a complete halt behind the line, and was intending to do so, when I noticed a car coming very fast over the rise behind me. I was unsure about his intention, but wary that he might collide with me, I made a split-second decision to move through the amber and complete my turn.
As I was in the intersection, the red-light camera flashed, which I am exceedingly sure was to capture me. As I had completed my turn, I am unsure about what happened with the other driver, whether he had continued forward, turned or attempted to come to a stop.
My record is clean of any offenses; I do not drink on days I am driving, I always watch my speed and my driving behavior and stance is defaulted at cautious and courteous. I currently do not have any demerit points or warnings and have only been pulled over for random breath-testing - all of which I have passed. The only reason I would've ran that red light was to ensure the safety of my vehicle and myself.
If this is my first offense, will I lose my license?

I guess I'm working under the scenario that my car WAS the one that triggered the camera (albeit for, what I believe is, a good reason).
What I want to know is whether or not my license will be suspended or cancelled - rather than getting an fine and or demerit points. While I would probably still inform the police of my reason, and hopefully get it downgraded to a warning, it was be extremely inconvenient if I were to lose my licence in the mean time.

This is my opinion I don't think you will lose your license. You may get a ticket and your insurance may go up. If you want when you get the ticket go to court and tell them what happened. They may just give you a warning and no fine and your insurance may not go up. That is my opinion. |

Red light violations typically result in just a fine. Where I live, in the US, it's about $50. No points are taken off the license (that I know of).

Don't know the laws there, in Texas you would just get a fine at the most. Sure hope it is nothing more than that as you don't deserve it. |

If you were in the intersection on the yellow before the camera flashed it didn't get you, it got someone else. The ticket will be about $75.00 if you got one, I don't think you did. Nothing will happen to your license. |

take it to court.you will probably pay a fine and not lose any points.you definitely wont lose your licence.your insurance probably wont even go up.at least not until your next renewal.DONT call them to ask about this.call a different company if you are curious. |
