I have two questions...yesterday I rear ended a guy on the freeway. There were no dents or noticeable damage on either car, just a scratch. He said that if it was his car, he wouldn't care, but since it's his company's car he's gonna have to report it.
My first question is, will the company report this? I mean it was literally just a small scratch and the only thing that you would need to do is to put a little paint over it. And will this raise my insurance by a lot?
My second question is, do you think a minor accident like this can damage my car? I drive a used Toyota Corrolla. I think it's year 2000 or 2001. I don't really have money to get it checked or anything, but I got an oil change recently. What are signs that indicate tha a car is in bad condition? Like what things should I look or watch out for?

If your worried about the truck then I would go that business and talk to the boss and see what he/she wants to do. If your honest maybe they'll let you pay out of pocket if not then make a report.
If it was a minor accident (5-20) mph then there should be no real damage just a bad scratch. But if you leaked fluided then have your car checked b/c the radiator might have taken a hit. Also have somebody pop the hood and check underneath the car to make sure everything is alright.

Watch out for the steering wheel shaking when your speed elevates, any knocking noises, overheating, pulling to one side or another, check to see if your hood opens and closes properly.
Yes, they probably will report it, but there's always a chance they won't. It depends if it's a small company that may let it slide.
Insurance rates will depend a lot on your age and the total damage reported. If they do report it though, be prepared for a $50-$100 a month insurance hike. |
