Will this help save on car insurance?

My husband and I need a second car because I got a job way across town and with school coming up, we have completely different schedules... So I was thinking of only putting my name on the title and the insurance for the new car because my husband has an accident on record and our rates went up. Secondly, would it be beneficial to take my name off our current car and insurance so that it will be only in his name? Could this help save money with our insurance? Sorry if this is a gay question, just trying to save us a little extra money to put away in savings

Jeremy F is on the Right track. It can sometimes actually be lower if multi car discount is greater then the additional drivers premium

It will almost always by like 90 percent of the time be cheaper to insure you both together

The name on the title doesn't matter. What matters, are the listed household members. It will actually be cheaper to have that car on the same policy as the other one, because then you'll have a "multi car discount". Also, if you don't have renters or homeowners insurance, get the renters insurance, with the same company. You'll likely save 20% PER CAR, on the car insurance - way, way more than the cost of the policy.

Nope. If you put a second car on your insurance, your rates will drop significantly. My insurance went from $120 for my first car down to $48 when I added my new car. Plus, if you get above a 3.0 GPA in school, you can usually get a good student discount. You also get cheaper rates if you claim married. If you are renting an apartment or house, ask if you can save even more if you get rental insurance. What I saved pays for the insurance and then some... Ask to speak with the insurance agent in person and see what kind of saving you can obtain.... Good luck!

It also depends on your state laws if you can do that or not. In many states if not most if both names are on the loan then both names have to be on the registration and insurance. Having it just in his name you would need to refinance the vehicle. This would then also mean that you were only licensed to drive the one car. And when you have both cars on the same policy you get a multi-car discount. Not to mention the more security features you car has the better discount as well. (such as airbags, security, daytime running lights, etc..) I really think its more hassle then its worth.

A lot of times insurance companies offer a discount when you insure multiple vehicles with them, you best bet would be to call and ask them what the new rate will be.

btw instead of apologizing for this being a gay question why don't you apologize for making a statement like that, it is offensive.

it would be best to have both cars in your name as the primary and have him be the secondary to one car...talk to your insurance company on what would be best though

and look for a driving program for him to go through, i know that after my wreck i had to go through a program called "alive at 25" and that helped my insurance

I believe... most insurance companies giva a multiple car discount, therefore would be beneficial to have both on same policy. Some insurance companies automaticaly put the riskiest driver (your husband, in this case) to the riskiest (most expensive, for example) vehicle. Have him as sole (or primary if you may occationally switch) driver on the vehicle that is least expensive to insure, and you on the vehicle with the costlier policy (if your insurance company allows this).
Also, increase deductables on comprehensive and collision if you are comfortable doing so. Ensure mileage (how much you say you will drive yearly) is accurate. If you say 20,000 miles a year, but only drive 10,000... wasting money. Ask about discounts for safety equiptment (daytime running lights, alarm, etc).
Hope this helps. If your insurance company is good, BEST thing would be to call and get a quote both ways. Quotes are free.

Not worth the hassle. Consider carpooling or get bare minimum coverage on your vehicle (preferably older).

Also, take a defensive driving course to lower your rates.

Good luck!

I tried some thing similar when I moved to texas and was told as my wife it was assumed she would drive my truck sooner or later, I just had to pay high rates because of her DUI for years and that was kind of GAY. So you might not find a way around it. We had two cars on the policy to.
