With comprehensive auto insurance (state farm), will it cover water damage if you drive through a deep puddle?

My buddy drove through a deep puddle that was unseen, and it flooded the entire car and engine and the car was submerged pretty much. Will comprehensive insurance or just regular insurance cover it? Will insurance buy the car back? Thanks.

If the vehicle is flooded,then this would be covered under the comprehensive portion of the policy. If the cost to repair exceeds the value then the insurance will total out the car. They will pay the actual cash value of the vehicle minus the deductible and any prior unrelated damage.

Driving into any body of water is covered under your Collision coverage. The claim is subject to your deductible and is chargeable (it will cause your rates to increase). Of course if your friend doesn't have Collision coverage then it's not covered.
