shes too embarrassed to ask anyone, so i thought is ask for her.
She's planning to get her drivers license however she doesnt have a social security number.
she did not come here illegally, her visa expired and she overstayed. she says shes been living in the U.S since she was 1 , shes now 17 .
can she do something to get her drivers license?
we live in Texas by the way.

She might not have COME here illegally, but she's here illegally now... overstaying your visa is illegal and can be punishable by deportion and being barred from returning for 3 (if you overstayed by a fewmonths) to 10 years (if you overstayed by a year or more lke your friend did). I don't know the exact ruling in your friends case, since she came here as a child, but yeah, she's def. here illegally. She could only get her liscense if she lives in Washigton, Utah, New Mexico, or Hawaii... which you don't. So |

Your friend is here in violation of the law, and as such, does not have the legal presence in this country that would allow her to get a driver's license.
She needs to go back to her home country, before she is caught and deported, and then apply to immigrate legally. It is a shame that she has to suffer for the criminal acts of her parents, but she now has to make things right.
She may not have entered the country illegally, but when she (and her family) over stayed the visa, they broke the law and became criminals. |
