its now 2011 and i have just had a bill from the highways agency for £1900 because they say i was not insured when i had an accident back in 1999. I dont have records back that far.. how can i prove that i was insured at that time. They say the insurance company i was with has no record of me being insured although they paid me out for the car.

Your former company will need to provide you with a certificate of insurance for the day of the accident. Call your former company, give them the date and they can look it up, or they refer to their achieves.
