11 PM curfew? fair or not?
|
I am a teen, and personally i am shocked that some "government" has a power of telling me that i cant be out past some time?
I think that there should be a curfew on Monday-Thursday, with school and all. But why on the weekend? i have a job, i get off at 9:30 and i cant go to the movies because by the time i get out it is past 11 and i think that is complete bull crap!
Please provide evidence and logical points, make this a discussion.

When I was a teenager, there was no curfew.
OUR PARENTS MADE THE RULES AND WE BETTER DAMN WELL FOLLOW THEM!
The first kid to call the cops when his parents spanked him is who you have to thank for this. Also the yo-yo's who believe that the government can fix all the problems do not help either.
Since most parents are wiped out from chasing the legal tender necessary to buy you your x=box, cell phone with instant text messaging,, computer, Broadband internet service, Satellite tv with movies on demand, Plus keep two suv's in the driveway, they are too damn tired to keep track of what you are doing after 11:00 pm.
Yes I think it should probably be 1:00 am on weekends. Meaning Friday and Saturday... 11:00 SUNDAY Through Thursday (you said Monday)
I get you that the government has little or no business running your life. but you gotta know some of your peers whose parents do not give a rats behind what they are doing where , when, or with whom.
I deserve to be protected from them. If we did a little better job of policing ourselves, we would have the right to insist the government butt out!
How about this one. If you work AT LEAST 16 hours per week, and maintain passing grades in school, you should be provided with an ID card exempting you from curfew. You have proved you are responsible enough to handle it.
Really, by the time you are done reading all this, you will be 18 and all this will not matter. |

Personally I think that it should be taken case by case. If you have a job or if you have something important to do, then by all means you should be allowed. Most rules and laws are made for the "bad" apples and the rest of the "good" ones have to pay for it. If our society self regulated better we would never have this problem. We rely on government too much and we have forgotten how to be decent human beings that watch out for each other. |

It's not fair, but generally nobody gets busted for curfew unless they're doing something else stupid. |

now i am 19 and that law doesn't apply to me....but when i was a minor and at the job i worked had required me to stay past 11 almost every time and that stupid law almost got me fired so i agree with you man! and most likely they wont pull you over unless you are doing something else illegal, just remember that. |

Don't like or agree with general blanket curfew so would say unfair, but odds are if you went to movie and went directly home you would not be bothered especially if you calmly explained your situation if stopped. |

It's just another example of the government trying to be a better parent than the actual parent. |

your not old enough to vote: so why would they care what you think....As a teen there is nothing good that can come out of, being out past 11 or 12. Yes it's fair, ohhh and it reduces crime. |

Well, where I live is till midnight. It's just for our own protection and others. Nobody likes it, but teens are ******* crazy a lot. |

Because even though you have a job, you are a minor. You are not old enough to vote. Everything you do is a privilege. Driving, having a job under 18, going to the movies. It is there to keep you safe. |

The point isn't that it is not fair, the point is that the government has no authority to say that citizens are allowed out of their homes only at certain times.
As an example: Say a few years down the road when one of my children is 16 or 17. They're at a friend's house and don't feel well, so at midnight, they want to come home. No government agency has the authority to make that a crime, and no decent person would support a law like that. If I place restrictions on when they go out, that's my position as a parent. By looking at our country, it is easy to see that I can do a better job of raising my children than the government can. |

Yes it's fair, if your leaving a movie and going home nothing will be done, but if your hanging out in the movie parking lot an hour after the movie ended......your BUSTED |

It's fair and a good idea. There is too little to do after 11:00 that does not potentially lead to trouble. I'm sure you are responsible and law-abiding, but too many teenagers lack the maturity to follow your lead. It's not a slam on teenagers; it's just that during that phase of our lives, our brain is wired to do more risky behaviors. Late night drives claim way too many teenage lives. The law is just there to help you stay safe and survive to adulthood. Rent a video and take it home after work. You will save a lot of your hard-earned cash. |

Its fair. Teens tend to get into trouble around that time at night. The city is protecting you and residents from crime. |
