I don't know anything about proving to police that you are an adult. I do know in certain states you are considered an adult at 17. Texas for example. If you leave home at 17 in TX you are not considered a run away, you are considered an adult, however, you still cannot enter into a contract until you are 18. You have to sign a lease, which is a contract, to get an apartment, so what good does it do you to leave home if you still cant do what you need to do to live as an adult. My suggestion to you is to stick it out until you are 18. Believe me, we all thought that we were old enough and didn't need mom and dad anymore long before 18. Its a lot harder than you think. Stay home and save your money now while you don't have any bills to pay. The more money you have saved when you do move out, the better off you will be. |

why do you want to move out? is your mommy telling you what to do and you just don't want to listen to her.your parent's are there to guide you and help you make the right choices in life.it's little punk's like you that think they know everything and they want to do whatever they want.what are you going to do for money?you can't flip burger's and afford an apartment and a car and insurance and food and all the other thing's that your parent's may provide for you.your parent's are probably not going to keep supporting you if you leave.stay at home and grow up!!! |

no, sorry you can't move out if your parents don't agree to it.
If you just leave, your parents can actually report you as a 'missing child' and the police will bring you home. forcefully if necessary. You can try to get emancipated, but unless your parents are abusing you, that will take more than a year.
You can't legally rent your own place until you're 18. You can't work full time until you're 18, you won't be able to finish school well, and support yourself. it's really not a good idea.
As far as the laws you are referring to, they just don't exist. At least not in the US and western Europe. You can't just tell the police you'll be safe, and then get emancipated. it doesn't work like that.
I think you should just work part time, save money, study hard, and be ready to move out on your 18th birthday. |

The question is what do your parents think? I was asked to leave home when I was 17, too wild and crazy for my mother to put up with me, I didn't have to move but it was the best thing to do. If you have somewhere to go, inform your parents of your desire to move out, and go. Now if you were my daughter none of this would apply because I am an over protective father! If you are just trying to get back at your parents this is not how to go about it, you have to communicate. Everything worked out for me, and there was no love lost in my instance, we communicated. |

No you can't move out unless you get legally emancipated. |

You can move out IF you have parental permission. The other option would strictly be a homeless shelter. Anywhere that your parents know your where abouts and allow it.
The only possible way you'd be able to legally move out on your own at 17, would be if you emancipate yourself. Which by the time you went through court, you would already be 18.
I just rannaway at 16, I'm now 17 and a half. I was gone for 6 months, and believe me.. theres no way around it unless your parents sign over concent.
It's as simple as a note signed by them stating you can stay with so and so, or live with so and so. |

It will depend on the jurisdiction you live in - since we don't know what part of the world you are from it's hard to give specific advice. Rather than worry about the police, you might want to check whether you can access services you need and take out contracts at that age in your area (i.e., electricity, phone, bank accounts, welfare or social services if needed). Also make sure you have a very steady income. Living away from home is expensive, no matter what you think before you leave.
I'm in Australia and left home at 17, but I'd graduated from school and was starting university in another state and living on campus. I didn't have to tell any authority, advise police, fill out any paperwork etc, etc to leave home at that age. |

I don't know where you live. Since I live in TX, I checked on that state. Other states may be different. Check "age of emancipation in....(name of state)."
Sec. 31.001. REQUIREMENTS. (a) A minor may petition to have the disabilities of minority removed for limited or general purposes if the minor is:
(1) a resident of this state;
(2) 17 years of age, or at least 16 years of age and living separate and apart from the minor's parents, managing conservator, or guardian; and
(3) self-supporting and managing the minor's own financial affairs.
(b) A minor may file suit under this chapter in the minor's own name. The minor need not be represented by next friend.
Sec. 31.002. REQUISITES OF PETITION; VERIFICATION. (a) The petition for removal of disabilities of minority must state:
(1) the name, age, and place of residence of the petitioner;
(2) the name and place of residence of each living parent;
(3) the name and place of residence of the guardian of the person and the guardian of the estate, if any;
(4) the name and place of residence of the managing conservator, if any;
(5) the reasons why removal would be in the best interest of the minor; and
(6) the purposes for which removal is requested.
(b) A parent of the petitioner must verify the petition, except that if a managing conservator or guardian of the person has been appointed, the petition must be verified by that person. If the person who is to verify the petition is unavailable or that person's whereabouts are unknown, the guardian ad litem shall verify the petition. |

If you're "going to be" 17, then you "are" 16. You are a minor. You cannot do much of anything without the consent of your parents. It's that simple. |
