6 months in jail?? does this seem right for a first offense?

i got arrested for posession of marijuana with intent to sell, 1.5 ounces, and a pair of brass knuckles and the judge is offering 6 months in jail. this is my first offense and on my own i got into a drug counseling program and now get drug tested. this is what the judge offered during the pretrial. showing that i did the rehab and turned my life around will it make him change his mind about jail and give me probation? i have a lawyer and im also a full time college student and i have a part time job. i live in connecticut where the jails are overcrowded.

6 months is STILL a reasonable sentence for a felony offense.

Only the judge himself would have any insight into whether that would change his mind or not.

Some judges are corrupt and send people to private jails and get kickbacks. Check to see if this happened to you.

Marijuana laws need to be reformed in this country.

Don't do drugs.

Well, in the county I live, that is very light. I know a friend who got 90 days for selling a quarter bag...first offense. If you lived here your sentence would be worse than that. I would be happy with it.

If you were not already tried, demand a jury trial.

the judge offered you time before trial. you mean the prose cuter. under 4 oz. in ct is a $1000.00 fine. did you have it broke up? if you did its a $25,000 dollar fine and 0-7 years. brass knuckles are illegal in ct. ct. is well known as a bad state for weapons. they routinely pull over out of state plates during hunting season. whats your lawyer say?

Well I will tell you this, having brass knuckles in the state of CA is automatically a violation of 12020pc possession of a prohibited weapon which could give you up to 12 months of jail since it is a felony. Add the intent to sell charge and I say 6 months in county jail is a good sentence for a first offender. Regardless of what you are doing after the fact, you did violate your state laws which will have consequences. I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but there is truth in it.

You should be confiding all of this with your lawyer. Also, just because the jails are overcrowded where you live does not mean they won't stuff you in somewhere. Jails are overcrowded everywhere and people keep getting sent to them, that's why they are overcrowded.

It does seem a bit harsh. If you did not have the brass knuckles it probably would not have been as bad. But hey you were stupid enough to being doing illegal drugs in the first place. Deal with the concequences and do your time and learn your lesson.

Possession is enough, but then you had Brass Knuckles on. Those are considered a weapon. Many States outlaw them. Then the worse of all three is: Intent to Sell. Your a Drug Dealer. You can Thank your Lucky Stars it wasn't more time. College Kid , what classes have you skipped ? Wise up or you won't be able to finish College. You can try while incarcerated. But it doesn't count. I am Thankful, your not my kid .
