7 Year Old Kid Walking to School?

No, I don't have a kid. I'm only a sophomore in high school.

But I think it's a little dangerous. There is this little kid, no more than 7 years old that walks to a catholic school in my town. He walks to school alone. My town is small but a little congested. It's a safe town but you never know what'll happen.

I'm kind of worried about this kid walking to school every morning. It probably takes him 15 - 20 minutes to walk since he lives somewhere in the next town over.

I mean one morning, my mom was driving me to school and he darted out in front of us crossing the street and my mom almost hit him because he is he's short and he couldn't see him. But we didn't.

I mean I see him every morning walking along a pretty busy road.

Should we say anything? Like call the police or something?

No, we wouldn't think to pick him up since you know today's days, if a kid comes in your car, you'll be considered a child rapist.

But I'm really worried for him. I don't think a kid should walk alone at that age. Expectually in a busy area.

And this school doesn't have buses.

What can we do and/or is there anything we can do?

We don't know his parents. We don't know where he lives. We just know he lives the next town over and there is no way we'll find out where he lives since none of us are home when he leaves school. I see him walking home when my bus comes around and drives past him.

And I need serious answers.

I see the same thing, but I live in a city where I dont believe small children should be left out alone. Your concern is a serious one. Since you almost hit the child because he darted into the road, I suggest you get your mom to call the police and let them know whats going on. IDK what the laws are regarding how young a child can be to walk alone but Im sure having good judgement makes a difference. It may be like leaving a child home alone. I was told by the police (this is where I live, so other cities might be different) that there is not really any specific age as to when a child can be left alone, only that they need to be old enough to understand and know how to deal with situations (a stranger at the door, an emergency, etc).
You have a concern. Do what you can. Call the police.

If you know which school he goes to,just go talk to the principle or someone in the know and see what comes from that.

its so nice that you care, i dont know if there is anything you could do, except pull over and tell the child to watch cars and not dart out in traffic the way he did, and then even that would be iffy hopefully the child would have been talked to about strangers and stuff, and for one of the answers alls i have to say is thank god i live in the United States of American, i would be devasted if my 7 year old was arrested for walking alone and put in jail for 3 years, maybe i would be arrested for allowing it to happen but not a child good luck to you

When I was seven, my family lived in a small mountain town in Arizona. (My dad worked for the Forest Service.) It was probably a town of about 10,000, so small, but not a hamlet.

I didn't walk all the way to school, but I did walk pretty close to a mile to the bus stop every day and that same mile from the bus stop home. I remember being just fine. I had the sense to stay out of the road if a car was coming and to stay out of the irrigation ditch if it was running.

Most children walk to school. Age 5 and up.

I live one block from the school and kids 5-12 walk from as far as three miles away ever day.

Get real. You sound very overprotected.

report him to the police and he will be arreseted, most probably for 'endangering human life by way of causing a motor vehicle accident'. I dont know how they do it where you live, but its how we do things in the UK and Wales. He would be facing 3 years.

The real danger we all should take care of is traffic. And that's 100% on drivers. Look in the way of your car's movement and everything will be OK. You'll see even small animals. like squirells, and you can't miss a child. Just look, look, look. All the time. Maniacs are very rare, especially in small towns. Don't even think of it. Just observe your driving.
