A dear friend of mine called from jail today to ask me to pick up his belongings from the police station?

I wasn't home, so only got his message about it. I called his CW and left a message asking him to let my friend know that I would do so. I also called the Police Station and asked if permission had been faxed for me to do so. The dispatcher told me it had but asked me to wait until tomorrow to pick it up because it was in "deep evidence".
My questions are: Will his case worker convey the message? What is deep evidence? and also, should I be concerned that they will be suspecting me of something?
This is an ex-boyfriend of mine and although we split years ago we have stayed good friends. Other than occasionally visiting to talk and hang out we have no other connections, I'm not involved in his case or involved in the reason he is in jail. I'm just worried that the police will think I know more than I do or something?

Simply picking up his belongings doesn't incriminate you in anything.
However, if he or someone else connected to the case has named you as a conspirator, the authorities might try to make something of the fact that you picked up his belongings. That's pretty flimsy, though, since it would be unlikely that you would be able to tamper with or benefit from anything released from evidence. Chances are that if you're already suspected of anything, that they would have already contacted you. I'm saying this is extremely unlikely to be some sort of sting...it would be very unusual for you to have anything to worry about.
There's no guarantee that the CW will notify your friend.
I've never heard the term "deep evidence'. Evidence is usually evidence...if they're releasing the belongings, it's because they've decided there is nothing there of evidentiary value to them. It's possible that after you get his things, and compare what they've given you with what he expects you should have gotten, there may be a few things missing. Those would be items that the prosecution believes pertain to the case. |
