Where are you? If in the UK it most certainly is illegal. Comes under the heading of "offensive weapon", along with most equipement purpose-designed to inflict harm on others, i.e. pepper sprays, tasers etc. |

Look up the "penal code" for the state you live in. Once there, you will need to search for words like, Prohibited Weapons, Illegal Weapons, etc.
It's NOT illegal in every state. |

Agree with Chrys. Just be discreet with it. Don't have it out in your car, but have it on hand when you are walking alone anywhere and as you are walking to your car. If it saves your life you won't care if it's illegal in your state, but the cops will if they pull you over, so be careful. |

You should be able to find out on-line. Just Google the name of it and/or manufacturer then check the SN on the site. It is supposed to list all states and counties where it is illegal. |

What state? Each state has different laws. Very likely the only situation you'll have to worry about is whether or not it is legal to carry that device on your person. Tell us what state and perhaps we can help. Otherwise, it's easy enough to search your local and State statutes to determine the legality of any weapon.
update: Turok Espn, I like alot of your answers but I have to take issue with you here. You don't know what device she's talking about. As far as I can tell, none of us do. The method by which she aquired it isn't necessarily illegal. It was a gift. I bought my wife a stun gun. Electric weapons are not illegal everywhere. Not by a long shot. You don't even need a license in FL. And 50,000 volts being enough to stop a human heart is totally false.... totally. You get more than that in a typical static discharge. Amperage will kill you, not voltage. These things don't have nearly enough amperage to stop your heart. Electric devices are legal to possess and carry in 43 states. |

I was working in a store in CALIFORNIA,U.S.A and a man enters the store and introduces himself and gave his business card,stating that he owns a security company,and he is certified person from the local state.He was selling TASER for 40 dollars/each.and he said that it is legal to carry one.
Next day a police officer comes to the store for buying something,and i asked him if it was legal to carry a TASER,and he confirmed me that yes it is legal to carry one,but do not expose it to public until you have to use it... |
