A serious question?

how do YOU manage to be so happy when most people in the world are suffering, (look on the bright side) yeah right, poor madeline mcann cant say that, or the 11 yr old boy who got shot in the back of the neck, or the innocent people in iraq that get murdered by the americans.

MOST people are very happy. If everyone worried about everyone else???....NOTHING would get done in the world. Trust me...a smile makes anyone happy....even in tough times.

how do you manage to be so unhappy?

The world is full of good and bad, but bad news pays. So it's shoved down our throats by journalists.
I keep happy by keeping away from news reports.

I enjoy my life because I have a great homelife (thanks to the wife and kids) and an enjoyable worklife.

I feel for all the relatives and friends of the above people, but I have my own life to live and have the happiness of my family to consider. That doesn't mean I cannot spare a thought for others.

Not everyone is happy.

It's why people post so many rude or mean answers on this forum.

The world is meaner and crueler than ever before. Most likely we just see it that way because we have more access thanks to media. Most Americans use material items to block out other people's suffering. Concentrating on having a big home, best lawn, best car also help....these also work to hide unhappiness or depression too..

People anywhere can just ignore whatever they want....

You should never assume others feelings.....I do not feel happy with what is happening in this country,Britain....As to Madeline that was her parents responsibility to keep her and her siblings safe, As to the 11yr old my heart goes out to his parents and family and the parents of the person that shot him should be ashamed, As to Iraq yes, I agree we should have left Saddam to exterminate them himself as he was doing a fair job and in turn a lot of our sons and daughters would still be with their families not sitting behind a computer assuming!!!!

Just because you are un-happy with your country or nation of origin, that doesn’t mean that everyone else should be. Instead of looking at the malicious people in Iraq, that have been blowing them self’s up, lets look at the Iraq regime that was ousted, how many millions did they kill... Lets look at the other people around the world...They blow up buildings and cars and ram planes into buildings...That is not rational. And no one that condones that behavior should be breathing on this earth.

So why is it acceptable for a person who in the name of god kills themselves and others, but when an American solider reacts to the environment around them it creates atrocities...? How is that good?

People in America are happy because they have the will and freedom to change and fight for what’s right. The people in the Middle East have been at war for over 800 years, and probley will be in the next 800 years....

People in the world are suffering because they don’t have the desire to over come the adversities that arise. America, however, fought against a reigning monarch, and prevailed. People of the world would be happy if they took a stand and said "hey this is not right...why do we allow this." Instead these people that should be trying to change, blow them self’s up and kill people for satisfaction.

I manage to be happy because I know the principals in which America was founded upon. I understand the struggle that African Americans faced, I understand the immigration issue. I understand THAT UNLESS I TAKE A STAND NOT A DAM THING WILL CHANGE. Taking a stand doesn’t mean, that because I am mad I am going to go kill people. If I die invien, trying to change, just maybe someday there will be change.

I am happy because I know what I have to be thankful for. I have served in the military and I work in law enforcement. I am happy knowing that every morning I wake up I knowing that some how and someway I will make a unique differance in someone’s life and just maybe the world will change.

The sad fact is that not everyone on this earth can be happy. Things happen that we might not choose for others or ourselves. But unless we can over come the obstacles that challenge us, the fact is we cannot be happy. Unless we change the way we think unless we change we act, HAPPINESS IS A PHILOSOPHICAL ELUSION.

What the world needs are people who can take a stand. People that stand up and say "Hurt me, I am willing to sacfrice my self so that others may benefit. I am willing to fight injustice and make a future for my self, and my family."

People in the world are suffering. That is a fact and no one can dispute that. I am happy because I know what I live for.

I worry about the issues that concern me most, which are criminal justice (especially capital punishment) and gay rights. These I hope to act upon and bring positive change. Everyone has their own issues that they are concerned about most. We can't all worry about everything.

Crafty Cath
We all have problems in our lives, and that is something we all deal with in our own ways as bad as other peoples problems are you cannot allow yourself to be involved in them. Yes the young boy that got shot was an abominable crime and I did get quite upset, but i cant let it rule my life. it makes me want to campaign for stricter discipline in schools and at home, and stop this namby pamby culture we have adopted.

So basically you have to turn something negative into a positive, like the mother of the child killed who is fighting to get guns off the streets. We should all do more to fight against the scum that make it unsafe for us to walk our streets.

Well, I have to say that before answering your question, I was thinking of a sensible response to give you, but none came to my mind... Maybe it's because I was trying to make something up in order to make myself believe it...
I really don't know what to tell you, and it's not that I'm looking for a satisfying answer, it's just that your question is very deep and carries a good deal of meaning.. I particularly think that the way in which people are treating this issue seems very egotistical to me... In short, your arguments are way too valuable, but sometimes people only care about themelves... Hope this changes someday... Hope that day comes tomorrow... Hope is the only thing left.

how exactly do you know we're happy?

If we want the war to end and the troops to come home, we're certainly not happy. We're angry.

So i sleep a lot
Some people suffer because they have to,some suffer because they want to and some choose to get on wiht it There is however a slight problem with the word Americans, although ime British i think other people commit acts of violence towards others,so you cant make it a menu

brit_plod
True... but if we all focused on the bad points what would be the point?

I blessed with a loving family and friends and never take it for granted, because as you've said it can be taken away like that...(Click)

If you try to empathize with ALL the sufferers in the world you'll be dead in a week from the stress. Its not your fault, so why let it destroy you too?

How do YOU manage to live with yourself despite being filled with misinformation about world events.

Overall, I'm actually pretty happy on a daily basis with what's happening in Iraq.

intracircumcordei
Either you are empowered to do something or you arn't.

If you don't like it change it.

You can only do what you can do.

See the good things in life and cherish them.

Do no harm, and help those you can.

If you live a virtuous and pious life to the fullest of your heart then it is the most you can do.

While things may happen you don't like - as stated either you can do something about it or you can't. So don't let it bring you down if you can't.

Because most people are wrapped up in their own little world and can't see the bigger picture. It's a society of ME-ME-ME that we live in.

The Government's and media only show and say what they want you to see and hear. That way most people keep the "feel good factor" and do not cause problems by asking awkward questions or taking action as most things do not affect them directly.

I am not responsible for all that goes wrong in the world. I am responsible for myself and my family. I take great effort to make sure that I and my family do not end up in places where the chances of bad things will happen. Sometimes bad things happen anyway and you have to deal with it. Madeline Mcann I can't comment on, I don't know enough, an 11 year old kid shot, such a shame, the fault lies with society on many of these issues. If we put the perbs and the phyco's away early in their lives we wouldn't have kids kidnapped and kids shot. Americans my friend do not kill innocent people on purpose in Iraq, that's not what we are about. if the Iraqi people will stand up and fight the Good fight for themselves, we could all go home.

Because I now that im not supporting any of that and actually against most of that plus if you allways felt bad for people you would care about yourself at all and you relize that life is to short to be sad. Of coarse you should be concerned and be helpful to the less fortunate than us but that doesnt mean live in their sorrow caz 2 unhappy is worse than one. I cant even begin to decribe the pain these people are going through, but you have to relize that even though things look bleek the glass is really half -full.
