About the Death Penalty/Capital Punishment?

~Given the 127 people released from death row over the last few years when DNA tests proved them to be totally innocent, I couldn't agree with you more. They had their chance at trial and blew it. Fry 'em quick I say, and screw 'em if they didn't do nothing. What the heck, more than 85% of them are black or hispanic, so who cares.
Now, if they ever start stickin' needles in white folks, I might reconsider. Equal justice is all well and good, but that might hit a little too close to home.

By the way, are you aware that states still using capital punishment universally have higher murder rates than their neighboring states that do not? We're talking major deterrence here. Not to mention the comparative costs of locking someone up for life or giving him the joy juice. It costs a whole lot more to kill somebody. But, as the Good Book says, kill for peace and justice and I'll get the rest of ya at the pearly gates. (King Fred Edition, from the Arameic texts.)

I am against the death penalty. Just because the state sponsors murder, it doesn't cease to become murder.

No, you are not crazy, you are just not compassionate. The reason it takes so long to put someone to death is that there must be no doubt, or as near to no doubt as is possible, before the defendant is killed. What is taxpayers' money compared to a human life?

you're crazy, i'm for it, but if done properly. there are many, many people that are innocent but in death row or already executed. many have been proven innocent after executed through DNA. many have alos been proven innocent w/ DNA (with less than 1% chance they did it) after convicted but the judge refuses to dismiss the case & set them free. when someone's life is on line, you have to make sure they are guilty so you dont kill an innocent person while the real killer is free.

how would you feel if you were innocently convicted & put on death row?!?

I agree .Maybe not two min after conviction but w/ in a very reasonable time.10-15 even 20 yrs? No way. W/ the DNA and everything else there has to be a quicker way.While still keeping in mind that the appeals process is needed,because there are still flaws in the system.But the waiting period is still sick.The family of the victims need swift justice.They do not need the case to go on and on, they need closure.One appeal should be enough.Unless they are convicted of a crime that involves children.Then the process must be hastened. this person must pay now.The child predators are becoming too prevalent. Society needs to change for the better, it seems that in the"good old days" justice was served promptly.

I was for the death penalty for years but have been concerned for some time that it may not be the best thing to do. I don't like the long wait but I might if I were one of those people that were later found innocent after several years. If I was assured of a true life sentence as an alternative to the death penalty I might be convinced to vote to replace the death penalty.

2. your not crazy but it's a bad idea. I do believe those convictions need to be double checked... maybe the government goes too far... but they need to be double checked. Many people have been later proven innocent after being conviceted of a capitol crime

I do not agree with the Death Penalty. Because it is not fool proof, I a person is convicted of a crime they may not have committed and then they are killed and later it is found out they in fact did not commit the crime what do you say then? And if you do not think this happens look at Illinois the governor there put a stop to the death penalty when it was shown that the DNA of a person convicted did not match the DNA of the killer of this person. He was released and the governor ordered a reopening of over 140 cases to see if the same thing could have happened to others on death row. If one innocent dies it is not worth it. The Greeks in Athens did not believe in the death penalty the would banish a person for a capital crime. Now of course we can not do this today but what about life in prison and I am not saying they get parole someday I mean if they go in the only way out is in a box. You will accomplish the same goal of execution and that is to keep them out of society for good. Now if you like execution just for the revenge side of it I would say you need to rethink you moral values on the issue of the importance of a human life.

it seems very fair to kill someone who has killed another person.

but do we condone the state to do the same action that we are punishing that person for (taking a life) ?

would you be the one doing the shooting or the one being shot

i think upon conviction if there is to be a death sentence it should be carried out by a family member of the victim. point blank 12 gauge 00 buck shot to the heart.
