About what percentage of guns is carried by teens; is carrying a gun for protection ever justifiable?

I think carrying a gun has no justified reason to it!! When a gun is used for protection there is usually death involved and I think many problems can be solved without blowing the other persons brains out.

why are you even debating our constitution!? if we were not allowed to have guns, we could easily have our rights taken away by an oppressive regime.

I believe it is against the law for a teen to own a handgun you would have to check your state laws on that one. As for carrying one for protection by someone older, perhaps ones that are on the road all the time on their job. I did in my car when I traveled for my job for I went in some towns that were not safe (told to me by locals) just in case my car broke down and needed it before help could arrive. But then I also had a cb radio and a cell phone at all times too. But for teens.....the answer is no.

For the first question I am unsure (sorry) but as for the second one: Their are things called CCW permits (carry concealed weapon) which make it legal to carry a gun. Other than that if someone was mugging you and you had the gun without the CCW and you shoot him you WILL go to jail.

most "teens will choose 22 or 25 caliber hand guns because they are small and do not have much recoil.WITH THAT SAID,THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT.A YOUTH IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE A LIFE AND DEATH DECISION.There are other ways to protect yourself and if a gun is the only way to do it then the teen needs to find another place to hang out.WE LOSE TO MANY OF OUR KIDS BECAUSE A GUN FOUND ITS WAY INTO A TEENS HANDS.(AND I AM NOT BLAMING THE FIRE ARM MANUFACTURER.)We do need strict gun laws but not for ppl who wish to own a gun for sport and protection but for ppl who want a gun for sport and protection who have kids in their homes.For example if you own a gun and have children then I think it should be mandatory that you and your children take a class together on how to use,care,and be safe with guns,as well as own a locked gun cabinet...sorry to be so long winded on the subject but this issue really hits home with me.I lost a nephew to poor gun storage...hope this helps

I have no idea about teens but I have strong convictions about carrying a gun by screened adults for defense and I am all in favor of it.

Violent crime has been shown to go WAY down in studies of 'concealed carry states'.

Teens are not allowed to carry guns, with exceptions for hunting, and then with adult supervison. Carrying a gun for protection is allowed, if you are properly licensed under the law.

In most states (perhaps even by federal law?) you must be 21 to PURCHASE a handgun. But in some states like mine, you do not have to be 21 to be in possession of one. The state of South Dakota allows you to be 18 and get a concealed pistol permit. My daughter, who has been hunting and shooting all of her life to include 7 years of shooting compititions is far more qualified to carry a concealed pistol than many, many adults.

According to criminoligsy Gary Kleck and John Lott, a firearm is the very best deterent to criminal aggression. Different people in different situations have different requirements. But the first thing that you need to do is realize th at YOU and no one else is responsible for your own safety. The police have no legal obligation to protect you. It is up to YOU. If you stick you head in the sand and pretend it could never happen to you, or that the police will always be aroud to protect you, then you are leaving yourself open to criminal aggression.

My daughter is very outgoing and very pretty. She could easily be the target of an aggressor, even though she is very careful about who she spends time with and doesn't allow herself to get into dangerous situations. She is also a trained martial arts and has had to defend herself from a drunk guy right in the hallway of the dorm who wouldn't take no for an answer. It can happen, even when you are careful. Had she not be able to defend herself who know what would have happened?

If you are of an age to do so, and are certified with the proper papers, yes. Otherwise, no.

I am pretty sure that even in "right to carry" states you have to be 21 years old.

As far as how many teenagers carry guns illegally? Some probably do.

Carrying a gun for protection can be justifiable. Even in states that are not "Right to Carry" states there are provisions for licensing certain individuals to carry a firearm but that must be decided by the local Police Chief and/or court.
