Accidental Phone Call And Threats Being Made Against My Life Should I Call The Police?

Last night this girl's boyfriend called me off her phone and was being really rude and I was left wondering why he even called me. So I checked my phone later that night and saw that my phone had accidentally speed dialed her number so I called her back and no one answered.
I decided to send her a text explaining what happened, but then her boyfriend calls me and starts threatening me that he's going to beat my boyfriend's a$s and all this stuff and I told him I have no idea where he's coming from because I don't have a boyfriend.
Me and this girl were friend for 12 years until this guy came around in December 2008. He beat her up twice, stole money and personal belongings out of her parents' home. She forgave him and made plans to move him into an apartment with her and her 3 kids that she has with her husband!
I called this girl's parents since the girl refused to get onto the phone and I left a voicemail with them stating that I'll phone the police if he or she shows up at my house.
Was this the right thing to do? We're both 21 years old and we stopped talking the end of March. Until my phone call we had had no contact with each other whatsoever. Should I file a report with the police over this? This girl's boyfriend is an ex-con with warrants out.

Oh and I'm changing my cell phone number, but this girl MIGHT still have my house number. I don't know for sure though.
I think I called her parents 3 times and left a message, but I was hoping to speak with her mom.
It's been 3 weeks since there was any type of contact and I stated in my voicemail that I wasn't calling her to get back into contact I was just explaining what happened.
