If I was a police officer, and I wanted to travel a lot in my life. Could I ask to be transferred to another Police Department on account of personal desires? Or do I have to work in one place and only be transferred if they made the decision for their benefit. I want to know if I'd be able to live in many different places but still hold my police officer job and maintain all my benefits from previous locations..

When you are a police officer you work for a city and you can't transfer out of the city or state. You would be quitting your job and then hoping you could find something else some place else. So being a police officer might not work. FBI might. if you stayed within a state, the highway patrol might.
But your answer otherwise would be no unless you were in some type of across state lines like FBI. they would transfer you and you'd have some ability to request but they would control it. I don't know of anything similar in other countries, but there may be. |

Each state has certification requirements. Some states' certifications will carry over, but you'll almost always have to expect a seminar or course in state laws in the agency to which you are transferring.
Unless the agencies to and from which you transfer are fairly close, it wouldn't be much of an actual "transfer" but rather a resignation and application of a job.
Benefits are usually department-specific. You can carry over your retirement (usually).

First of all, just looking at your grammar, I am inclined to ask: Are you an American? If you aren't, I can't answer your question because I have no knowledge of your country's laws.
If you are, then the answer is generally going to be "no". You can move and get another job with another police dept, but you'll apply and be interviewed and processed just like every other applicant. Now, agencies, especially state and federal agencies that have mulitiple domiciles may allow you to tranfer, but that doesn't sound like what you're talking about. Sounds like you want to be an international cop who can move around the world with police powers whereever he goes.... no such thing. |
