I was caught with a small bag that contained trace amounts of cocaine. I was brought down to the station, and spent about 3 hrs there. I was given a desk appearance ticket. What am I facing when I go down there?

it depends on how much they found. If it was almost nothing they will most likely fine you or dismiss you with a warning. |

No, you'll be okay as long as you don't have priors like drug or gun charges. I see drug diversion and NA meetings in your future.
I'd seek help now and jump the gun.
Drug abuse is a physiological problem. Get some help brother before its a full blow habit. |

Nothing. You're facing nothing. And I'm only going by what you're saying, not what I know. It's nothing, but if you feel better about it, get a cheap lawyer or a lawyer friend. It's nothing. Just go plead no contest, they'll discharge it and that's the end. |

I think if you were looking at jail time, they would have done it right then and there, rather than letting you leave & possibly flee. |

If there is enough trace in the bag to test positive for cocaine, you probably will be charged with possession of a controlled substance. If you have never been in any serious trouble , most likely you will recieve a probated sentence. In some states they have what is called Adult Drug Court. If it is your first offense, you can choose to be under the rules & regulations set forth by ADC. These are some fairly stringent rules. |

A fine and possible probation. Trace should not get you jail time unless you have a previous record. |

You should speak with a lawyer, since the punishment will depend on the jurisdiction. If they took you down to the station and you were read your Miranda rights, anything you said during those 3 hours can be used against you, even for future violations. I would advise you to seek counsel, although "trace amounts" is not likely a case that a DA will want to pursue. I wouldn't worry. |

I do believe that no matter how small the traces, you should recieve a very heavy fine and maybe a criminal record....
