Any point in continuing A-levels if you have a criminal record?
Find answers to your legal question.

Any point in continuing A-levels if you have a criminal record?

Regardless of how relatively small the charges are, is there any real point in bothering to continue? I mean it's not like universities will accept anyone with a criminal record, let alone employers. So then all that time spent working on the A-levels will be for nothing. In need some advice on whether it's advisable to carry on or not.

Thanks

yes
continue your education
most employers will take your decision to return to education as a sign of maturity.
assuming you tkae A levels for the right reason, to continue learning to help with lifelong skills then take 'em

if you are taking A levels becuase you are being told to do 'em, because you feel yopu have to do 'em is for the wrong reasons.

mind you it does depend what the crimilar record(s) you have.

Since I did my A's the certificate has changed enormously, so I can't comment on subject matter or work. however if you are contemplating things like "media studies" or other courses styled as such then don't bother in my books.

That isn't true, there are MANY many more people with criminal records in this world , than what you would imagine.

A criminal record shouldn't hold anyone back, unless you are working with vulnerable people of course

Carry on, please carry on. Don;t give up. .

Just do your A-level. Not having an A-level is even worse than having a criminal record

hi there.
A criminal record does not automatically disbar you from University, not will it stop you finding work. It will make some things harder, yes, but not impossible.
Leaving that aside, how better to prove that you are past that stage and actually not stupid than to prove it through qualifications?
So carry on, it can do you nothing but good.
Good luck, Steve.
PS A friend of mine did his O-levels in Borstal and ended up joining an accountancy firm, so I know it can be done.

Carry on with your A Levels. Its only 2yrs and will demonstrate your commitment. It will also provide you with references for when you seek employment - your lecturers will know YOU, not a criminal record.

Employers DO take on people with criminal records, you'd be surprised how many do!

You stand a great deal more chance of a future with a criminal record AND qualifications than just a criminal record!

Your convictions may be spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A few professions are exempt but many more are not.

I don't remember my daughter being asked in her application for university if she had a criminal record, even if you are I do not think a minor offence would stop you being accepted.

Apart from your grades the interview or personal statement you write with your application plays a large part in whether you are accepted or not. So if you are asked to disclose your record be honest about it in this and say that you realise how stupid you were to commit whatever the crime was and are determined to put this behind you. You can apply to several universities and you will very likely be accepted for at least one.

Many people when they are young get into trouble with the police it is what you do after this which will determine how people look at you in the future. By completing your education and going on to university you will show to future employees that it was a one off mistake, especially if it was a minor charge. The longer ago the charge happened will also show any future employees that this was a single mistake.

Don't let this one mistake stop you achieving your full potential academically and having the chance of having the best life possible.

Stick at it and try to get the best grades you can, they matter a lot more.

Good luck.

no body knows you have a criminal record only you and by the time you have finished uni it will be way in the past. Don,t let that stop you from getting your A levels get to Uni then go out there into the world and shake it by the balls and prove to yourself that it was a past mistake and that you can get on with life and become the person you really want to be BUT what ever you do don,t ever ever give up on your dreams !!!!!! Keep going.
Getting your A-levels shows that, despite your criminal record, you do want to do well. You are far more likely to get a job having completed your A-levels, whether or not you have a criminal record. There are many more people with a criminal record than you think.
You are far more likely to get a decent job having done your A-levels, even with a criminal record, than if you were a highschool dropout with a criminal record.
Even though you may have messed up, if you just keep on persevering, and you will realize afterward that it was well and truly worth it.
