Are british police officers allowed to carry their own firearms?

No and very few even have a service issued weapon. The crime rate is very high since the criminal element does not have to worry about an armed citizen defending his person or property. Briton is fast becoming an encampment for the displaced from the rest of the third world.

British police are not allowed to carry their own guns because they don't have guns. Pistols and semi automatic weapons are completely banned in the uk. They have been banned since our one and only school shooting was carried out in Dunblane.

The tradition in the UK is policing by consent (under a bit of strain at the moment). Our Police officers don't need guns because despite what is being posted here, the great majority of criminals do not have access to firearms.

So the police don't have guns, the criminals don't have guns and the citizens don't have guns. Another thing we lack is school shootings, armed robberies, over enthusiastic police officers shooting innocent people, firearms related deaths either intentionally or accidentally. If my house is burgled I can go down stairs secure in the knowledge that the scumbag won't have a gun. I don't have to worry about my kids being shot at in school. I don't have to worry about my neighbour going nuts and trying to shoot me.

We don't have guns to protect us from our government because we have a weapon for more potent than a mere firearm, we are a mature democracy and our greatest weapon is the vote.

You can keep your second amendment, I much prefer having my kids safe.

No - but they can be issued fairly quickly. There are also Armed REsponse Vehicles driving around most of the time, and they can break out the guns on the sayso of their local commander in certain cases.

Simple answer is no.

Authorised Firearms Officers carry police issued weapons which are locked in secure armoury's when not in use. These are issued when you start a tour of duty. Some forces have enough weapons to allocate one to each individual officer, who will take sole responsibility for cleaning it. Other forces such as mine share weapons. In any case they are all owned by the individual police forces.

No. The British don't trust anyone with a gun including their own officers. This of course has done nothing from keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals which is a growing problem in Britain.

No. It would be illegal for a Police Officer to carry a firearm around with them even if it was registered.

No the Queen is the only one allowed to have a gun. She keeps it on her royal jet. The police are only allowed to carry "tommy sticks," as long as they don't hit anyone with them. The British military are issued guns, but they only shoot blanks. Because they lack a huge list of rights like our Second Amendment, can you believe that only the British criminals are the only ones with guns and ammo. If the population were allowed to own guns, the criminals would move to France, but they would have to be really desperate still!
