Are cops allowed to do this?

My boyfriend and his best friend got arrested for tagging. then they found pot, alcohol, and a knife in his best friends backpack. So it was his felony too, cause he was with him.
Anyway they were being unnecessarily mean to them. they were looking through his friends backpack, found the alcohol, and purposely threw the backpack on the ground, broke the glass and got alcohol over his things. all he said was "oops" sarcasticly
the police made fun of them. told them to bring their pants back to their sisters. very odd considering their pants are pretty loose. and it was totally uncalled for.
I understand what they did was illegal, but are they allowed to be unreasonably mean?
If you guys are going to say mean things about this don't bother answering cause Im not asking you to say that ****

And if they did, it would have to be caught on tape for proof. The word of 2 stoners and a girlfriend of the stoners means nothing against 2 cops. Sorry, that's just how it is.

Being "Mean? give me a break. Who had the illegal narcotics and concealed weapon in a back pack and who was acting like a thug gangster. The cops could have been meaner by letting the real gangs have their way with you when you got caught by them out of your subdivisons spray painting in their territory. Making a joke about something someone wears isn't unreasonably mean. Kind of rude, maybe inconsiderate yeah...but the cops aren't exactly dealing with upstanding citizens, and they don't have to be mr. manners when dealing with stoners that have weapons on their person. I'd file a complaint if there was anything crazy like the cop was violent or made threats, but IA will just laugh at you if you file a complaint for some wise-as* thing they said.
