I wouldn't refer to it as a "War on Drugs" which was a catch phrase by a former political party. It's more like a "cancer on society."
The problem is where there is a demand...there is a supply.
It's unfortunate when someone says "what I do is my personal decision and government shouldn't intervene" because that's a response from the proverbial ostrich burying its' head in the sand.
The results of individual rights to destroy ones own body clearly is outweighed by the communities rights to not have their property stolen or their lives disrupted simply because the typical drug abuser succumbs to addiction and a desire to steal, lie, or cheat to further their own addiction while victimizing the community.
Drug addiction can't be solved through enforcement alone! Those with a desire to ruin their lives with addiction could do so provided the rest of us taxpayers are not burdened with medical costs or criminal victimization.
Education will hopefully bring reason to those who are smart enough to realize that illegal drug abuse will harm any person who comes in contact with those who are too high to make right decisions. |

Nope...
Some of the best, cheap and top abused drugs are available at your local grocery store or pharmacy. |

There is no war on drugs. The so called War on Drugs is
nothing but a buzz word used by the Government to make
you think they are dealing and impacting the illicit movement
and sales of Illegal drugs in this country. Quite the contrary.
The able bodied members of Law Enforcement at all levels
fight a never ending battle. In order to stop this fight, and
declare victory,, is to destroy the crops as they are grown
in the foreign countries supplying us with these drugs. The
day that happens we start impacting the problem, Until then
Never, |

no. before we declared war, marijuana was in our high schools, after over 30 years of battling, it's in our grade schools. Over the last 30 some years marijuana strains have been cultivated to be more potent (God love those boys for that), certainly not a sign of victory. and lastly, more Americans are using marijuana than prior to the DEA war.
If we want to win the war then ending to marijuana prohibition is the first step. DARE claims lots of facts and health issues but they have no medical stats to back up their theoretical claims and their prominent studies they tout have not survived peer review. put pot in the hands of legit business people who care about the age of people they're selling to and many of the problems will go away, not to mention the stimulus to the economy and tax base.
a final important point, take cannabis off from law enforcement's plate and they will have more Man power & resources to target crack, heroin, LSD, etc, etc, etc. |

There is not war on drugs. There is a political agenda which is manipulated by politicians and civic leaders. The term 'drug' has to be redefined and the components categorized in terms of how to manage and control these 'drugs'.
As for the police their budgets are almost largely defined, distributed, and based on this 'war'.
Start with that and then we can discuss who is winning what! |

Internationally YES.
Its not cops alone though. A few years ago (2001) i thought it was IMPOSSIBLE to dent drug flow through certain areas.
You (or rather I) could see quite a few drug dealers rumoured to be moving 10 to 25 million dollar shipments a few times a year. Since 9/11, all that has changed.
With such a drastic change, all triggered by the notion of a 'terrorist threat', i ask the question:
For all thier political speeches, why couldn't they have done this before?
The moral of the story is that in modern business (legal or illegal), politics can destroy, sustain or protect. If s***t still happens, its because someone or something isnt serious enough about stopping it.
Wouldn't this statement apply to the flow of illegal firearms? |

Yes - look at the tonnage of illegal weed and narcotics seized in the past years. If there wasn't a doctrine against drugs there would be much more on the streets due to the ease of smuggling. Granted a substantial amount gets through, but the mere suggestion of the drug importation into the country has made drug lords, mules, and dealers constantly on the defense.
If you compare now to the mid-eighties early nineties you will see significant differences in the communities that were held hostage to drugs - example, Crown Heights in Brooklyn, NY. I remember 1010 President Street being a lab for crack cocaine. Our initiatives in that area with not only arrests, but education made significant improvements with the community as whole, their quality of life.
You think drug abuse and the use of it is taxing on our country now, imagine if there wasn't fight to stop the flow.
Those naysayer’s that speak of government corruption, and that this is about money are also the ones that believe terrorists didn’t take down our towers, or that the bullets that killed Kennedy made a magical turn. I would take their explanation with a grain of salt and request statistical proof.

No.
The problem with "winning" the war on drugs is that is an unwinnable war. There will always be people who want drugs and there will always be people thinking of new way to bring them to those who want them. As long as there is a demand there will always be a supply. To win the war on drugs you need to eliminate the desire to do drugs and that's not what police or law enforcement in general does. When you get arrested for drug use you are housed in a prison cell and let out when your "debt to society" has been paid. There is no "rehabilitation" involved. You don't learn how to get clean in prison, you learn better ways to be a criminal. |

If they wanted to wage a war on drugs, they would stop arresting small time dealers for petty possession, loitering, intent to distribute, etc... and start by stopping the drugs when they come over. State governments get paid by the federal governments and in turn county governments get paid by the state for waging this 'war on drugs' and time spent in jail by small-time dealers.
If they arrest 20 small-time dealers (whose drugs probably came from 1 smuggler at the top) They get paid 10-20 times more that arresting 1 cartel member/dealer for more drugs off of the street at once.
Its all just a show and a scam to have an issue to debate in washington and make it look like they are doing something. |

The war will never be won. We can only win a little battle now and then. There are far more dopers and losers selling drugs to our youth than police. |

No you cant win a war when your fighting everyone there isnt anyone in this country thats never used a drug maybe not hard drugs but there should be a war on pharmacutical companies that market "good" drugs that turn around and create greater problems than street drugs in the long run |

the police are just keeping it status quo...the war on drugs cannot be won, without the lost of personal freedoms...the law abiding people don't care, but the criminals are crying over their rights are being violated...so liberals and the ACLU will keep drug dealers in business |
