So, Bamford1000, I knew about the Police in the UK using the Tetra system ect.. but are you saying that Police Officers in the UK dont use code and just speak plain english.

The Police in the UK don't use numbered codes due to the confusion they can cause as demonstrated during 9/11 when different US Law Enforcement Agencies and Emergency Services used different codes thereby adding to confusion. Indeed Virginia Police scrapped it's code system after the confusion such codes caused during the events of 9/11.

UK Police Forces now have access to very secure radio frequencies such as the encrypted Airwaves Tetra system by Motorolla (TEA2), which encrypts all radio comunications thereby making the use of police scanners increasingly pointless.

In answer to your question, however - no, the codes are not the same. For that matter, the codes vary widely across the U.S. itself. The codes can even be different from one city to another; however, they tend to have similarities within individual counties so that neighboring agencies can talk to each other if necessary. |

The codes are not the same from one dept to another dept within the same state let alone in the entire country and certainly not in other countries. |
