If so, the mechanisms set up to do this may be and according to Murphy's Law will be, misused.
(Person would be given medicines to elicit the "correct" symptoms to justify proceeding with the euthanasia).
There would have to be long range planning. Write in a diary that a person will go to hospital in 2 years time.
Opportunity at the hospital to choose to proceed. Book to see the patient in 6 months.
At the appointment, opportunity to proceed to book the patient in to a palliative care program.
How would I know whether 99.99% or 0.01% of the cases are genuine ?
Someone must be making a quid out of this.

I don't know if you recall this or not, but Dr Kivorkian ( the so-called "Dr Death" ) assisted people who were in terminal stages of diseases to self euthanize painlessly. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his humanitarian actions ( he did not "sell" his services and persons contacted him. He then screened there medical histories for validity and helped those that truly wanted a painless death).
Euthanasia is illegal. Same as suicide is illegal. No one can sign a disclaimer ( this was done with Dr Kivorkian to release him from all legal charges and it didn't work for a second).
Not sure of where this action might be being done or is considered to be done, but it won't happen in the USA.

What concievable reason could a doctor have for giving people medication to make them want euthanasia? Even assuming that the doctor has no actual concern for his patients, and that nobody could possibly find out what he was doing and punish him, there is no reason he would want to kill patients. Dead men can't pay medical bills. |
