Are the police wrong to do this?

my girlfriend went to the police station mad at me 12/23/09. I went to see if they were going to arrest me. I was told I could go. Two weeks later the officer got a warrant for my arrest (january 5). On April 5 2009, they came to my apartment at 830 am with a warrant for my arrest. I never got anything in the mail or was notified any other way. I turned myself in that tuesday. Is anything wrong with this situation?

Apparently, they did not have enough reason to arrest you when you stopped in. It was later determined there was enough for an arrest, so a warrant was issued.

99% of the time, a person is more difficult to locate if he knows he has a warrant, so notification is not standard procedure.

Not at all. They had most likely not finished the investigation at the time you went to visit them, and it is not uncommon to get the warrant to prevent the statute of limitations from expiring.

Nope. As far as arresting you that day at the station they wanted your GF to appear before a judge to get a warrant and let the judge decide if you should be arrested.
Coming to your residence at 830 in the morning is not unreasonable. In my department we don't send letters until we try to find the named first. If the courts want to send notifications it is up to them. That just makes it harder on the police to find someone who wants to avoid the inevitable.
You did the right thing when you learned of the warrant

Nope. A warrant for your arrest was taken out. A police Officer came by your place to serve it. What on earth is your beef? No one has to write you a letter and tell you about a warrant.
