You can press charges against anyone, even family members. What they were referring to is the fact that a person cannot be made to testify against their spouse. They can voluntarily testify against them, but they cannot be forced to testify against them. |

Not true.
However, "you" are not the one who "presses charges".
"Charges" are brought by the DA. YOU may file a complaint. |

What country are you in? It's a crime here in America for either spouse to assault the other. It seems perfectly fine in Arab countries and Iran. |

Judging by the Union Flag in you picture i'd guess you are in the UK; in which case you don't press charges, this is and a term used in the U.S and is not relevant under English Law.
You can make an allegation against your wife, or any other person, it is the responsibility of the Crown Prosecution Service the 'press charges' based on evidence gathered by the police. Even if you decide to retract your allegation or refuse to testify, the CPS can still prosecute without your cooperation. |

'Someone told me'. How often has that expression arisen here? If only people would choose their advisors more carefully, we wouldn't have to work so hard answering this type of question. Read the press. Spouses murder each other and go to prison don't they. Doh! |

You can. You cannot testify against each other for events or charges that are unrelated to one charging the other though. |
